Supplies that you'll need:

Simple Machine #6 Directions

  1. Start by opening and flattening the box completely at the box's seams.
  2. Find the side with the printed blueprints for the Simple Machine.
  3. Start at the and cut along the dotted lines. Cut out each piece along its dotted line.
  4. Tape short end of piece #3 near the bottom of the pencil, then wrap the piece around the pencil and tape in place.
  5. Tape together the #2 pieces into one connected spiral by matching the letters together. Make sure the pieces are securely taped together.
  6. Slide the entire spiral onto the pencil and stretch out spiral piece. Securely tape the spiral to the wrapped pencil.
  7. Tape the short end of piece #1 together.
  8. Place the now spiral pencil inside of piece #1. These two pieces should be loose enough that you can rotate the pencil clockwise and counter-clockwise.
  9. Place the cereal twist straight up and down in a bowl of cereal and rotate clockwise to move cereal pieces half way up the cereal twist. Hold the twist over the bowl and rotate the twist counter-clockwise to deliver the cereal to your bowl.

Rube Goldberg

RUBE GOLDBERG

Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) was a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist best known for his zany invention cartoons. He was born in San Francisco on the 4th of July, 1883 - and graduated from U. Cal Berkely with a degree in engineering. His first job at the San Francisco Chronicle led to early success, but it wasn't until he moved to NYC and began working for Hearst publications that he became a household name. Rube Goldberg is the only person ever to be listed in the Merriam Webster Dictionary as an adjective. It's estimated that he did a staggering 50,000 cartoons in his lifetime.
